Viridflorus means green-flowered, which describes the flowers of this cactus. Spines of Echinocereus sp. grow in straight lines along longitudinal ridges on the plant. This helps distinguish Echinocereus from Coryphantha sp., which has spines growing from tubercles not arranged in straight lines.
