Oreocarya thyrsiflora usually has several stems per plant. Inflorescences are shaped like small trees, with long flowering branches. Usually found on rocky soils and outcroppings.

Compare to O. celosioides, which has short flower branches and a narrower architecture.
O. celosioides and O. thyrsiflora are sometimes found growing near each other in northeastern counties.
